What’s more, we offer lab testing from the comfort and convenience of our office!

How Lab Testing Supports Your Goals

Our physicians will use the results from lab testing to customize your weight loss plan. These tests help identify underlying factors that may affect your weight loss, such as hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies or metabolic conditions. With this newfound information, Dr. Lindsey and our team create a tailored and informed approach to help support your wellness goals.

What To Expect During Lab Testing

We perform affordable, convenient lab testing right here at our facility in Salem, VA. Our compassionate, skilled technicians will first check for an easily accessible vein. Following, they will clean and disinfect the area on your arm where a small needle will go in to draw blood. Once we have collected enough blood to run the necessary tests, your provider will apply pressure with a piece of gauze to stop any bleeding before putting on a Band-Aid. The entire process is relatively painless and easy.

Types Of Lab Testing We Perform

If you are someone who has previous difficulty losing weight, low energy, chronic fatigue, suspect hormonal imbalances or are looking to improve your overall wellness, lab testing can reveal a lot about your overall health. Below is the type of lab testing we perform and what they tell your Weigh Station provider:

A complete blood count (CDC) measures your number of blood cells and the different types, including red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and hemoglobin. It can tell your provider if certain medications are impacting your body and reveal the health of your immune system. For instance, if there are any underlying conditions such as anemia, blood cancers, infections or other health conditions.

A comprehensive metabolic panel measures 14 different substances in the blood such as sugar levels, electrolyte balance, proteins and calcium. It also evaluates the health of your kidneys, the function of your liver and how your body responds to certain treatments.

A thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) blood test tells us if you have normal TSH levels, which vary depending on your age and other factors. If you have low levels of TSH, it usually indicates hyperthyroidism and as a result we may suggest a prescription medication to help manage your condition.

A T4 test, or thyroxine, helps diagnose certain thyroid conditions depending on whether you have too much or too little of the hormone. It is the primary type of hormone your thyroid gland releases.

Glycosylated Hemoglobin, more commonly known as A1c, measures the average level of blood sugar over the past two to three months. It provides important insights into how well blood sugar is being managed over time, especially for individuals with diabetes or those at risk of developing diabetes.

An insulin test is performed to measure the amount of insulin in your blood. It is a hormone that moves sugar (glucose) from the blood into cells. By monitoring your insulin levels, we are able to determine if your body is using glucose properly for energy.

Thyroid Peroxidase is an enzyme essential for thyroid hormone production. Elevated TPO antibodies may indicate an autoimmune thyroid condition, such as Grave’s disease and can help diagnose the cause of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.

A lipid panel tests the fat levels in your blood, including total cholesterol, LDL (commonly known as “bad” cholesterol), HDL (referred to as “good” cholesterol), and triglycerides. It helps assess your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke.

This test measures the amount of testosterone in your body and is responsible for controlling sex drive, maintaining muscle mass and bone strength among other things.

A DHEA panel tests for the amount of the steroid hormone and may reveal if you have an adrenal tumor or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

This is used to measure the three different types of estrogen to determine any imbalances or if you have benefited from hormone replacement therapy.
